“We build trust by putting our communities’ needs first. We create the space to engage and understand. We learn by listening. We act by thinking critically. We solve problems simply” Adrian Raisbeck, Founder
our story, from passion to impact
2020: Where It All Began
In the remote, underserved village of Malindi, on Malawi’s southern lakeshore, mbora planted its first seeds. It was the perfect starting point for Adrian Raisbeck, our Founder, a proud Malawian born Brit whose family roots in Malawi go back to 1897.
Why We Started
Malawi’s human security and environmental challenges needed bold solutions. Armed with passion and purpose, our Founder envisioned a game-changing, commercially viable way to spark rural development.
From Vision to Victory
The road wasn’t easy, but the proof of concept took off. The first mbora Hub became a hit, embraced by the local community who saw its power to transform lives.
Rallying Support
With impact came momentum. Local and global donors, along with forward-thinking philanthropists, saw the magic and joined the movement, fuelling mbora’s growth.
Today: Growing with Purpose
Fast forward to now: mbora has 8,000 registered users supported by 3 off-grid, connected mbora Hubs. And this is just the beginning. Our 10-year vision is bold, scaling into 3 countries, empowering 1 million farmers and village businesses, and redefining rural development.
mbora is a movement of hope, resilience, and transformation. Join us as we grow, scale, and make impact happen.
