Empowering Farmers, Growing Futures
mbora’s village bank, mboraMAX, provides farmers with microfinance and digital financial services, driving outgrower expansion and year-round farming. This boosts production of high-quality crops for local and international markets, creating economic opportunities while promoting sustainable, climate-smart farming.
what is mbora
mbora is an Agri FinTech social enterprise focused on transforming the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and entrepreneurs in African villages by offering a comprehensive, integrated service model.
Central to mbora's operations is mboraMAX, the digitised informal village bank that provides microfinance to smallholder farmers and entrepreneurs. Smallholder farmers join mbora outgrower schemes, engaged in climate-smart, regenerative farming practices.
The holistic support provided to outgrowers includes finance, agricultural inputs, clean irrigation, technical education, and market access, thereby fostering a sustainable and prosperous agricultural ecosystem.
purpose
To create self-sustaining agricultural communities who are financially independent and no longer reliant on handouts.
By doing so, mbora aims to significantly increase the income of outgrowers and entrepreneurs, generating high social and environmental impact, and addressing the first 10 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
impact
The impact of mbora's initiative can be broken down as follows:
Economic Impact: Outgrowers earn 5x to 10x more income through sustainable agricultural practices and market access.
Social Impact: Communities become producers, resulting in increased self-reliance and improved standards of living.
Gender equality: promoting women's empowerment through access to resources and opportunities.
Environmental Impact: Adoption of climate-smart, regenerative farming practices leads to improved soil health, increased biodiversity, and reduced carbon footprint.
